The Legend

As you will know, the legend of the Homeric Odessa tells about the travel of Ulysses to home, his Ithaca. A long travel, the one of Ulysses. He travelled in fact, for about nine years… it seems that he was not in a hurry. During his travel back home, the hero and his travel mates ended up at the Island of Eea, which has been indicated already from VII b.c. with the winged headland of Circeo… yes, I know you might object that Circeo is not an island but a headland. However, maybe you do not know that in times geologically far away, it surely looked like one!

 At this island lived a woman of a rare beauty and her name was Circe, a maga daughter of Elio and the sea nymph Perseide. In the Greek mythology, Circe transformed men in animals with her potions e incantesimi, but her victims did not loose ratiocinator and therefore they knew what had happened. Going looking for help for his men transformed in pigs, Ulysses met the God Hermes, from whom he received a herb that raised him immune to the incantesimi of the maga. Circe, who was surprised that somebody could resist to her magic formulas, fall in love with him and agreed to give back the human look to her victims.

 The protagonist of the Odessa, remained for one year on the island… ammaliato dalla Maga??

 Being tourist operators, we believe the version that he remained ammaliato from the beauty of our territory! It was the landscape that he saw through his eyes, which was the true magic: a blue sea with a fantastic Archipelago at the horizon, a large lowland forest, hillside and everywhere centres inhabited of fascinating scorci… and then, when he discovered the local kitchen! Therefore, he decided to stay. Every day there was something to do and to see. He left in the morning and came back in the evening. If he did not lay down enjoining the sun and the sea… it is obvious that after one year Circe left him. Ulysses re-began his travel, but he always spoke in a good way about these places… and Circe, thanks to her hospitality, began with success a tourist activity of which we are heiresses now… as her far descendents… but this is something you will not find written in the Odessa.

“Circe invite” works in the province of Latina, which is part of the region of Lazio, of which it occupies the south-oriental part. It is good connected: with aircraft from the airports of Rome Fiumicino and Rome Ciampino, and from Napels with the highway “Autostrada del Sole”: with the train, the most direct Rome – Naples.

ENOGASTRONOMICAL ROUTE: Through the unlimited flavours of the recepies of the sea and the hillside made of simple things and still used in the typical plates of the inner land. The recepies of the sea consist of typical fish soups, risotto of sea fruits, and the thousand ways of preparing various qualities of fish. The recepies of the hillside, which are also the more traditional ones, do consist of pasta made of eggs, home made sauces, soups made of herbs gathered in the countryside: soup of typical vegetables of the area, pasta with beans, fried eggs with wild vegetables and as side dishes salami and other flavours of wild vegetables cooked in a simple and traditional way. Furthermore delicious meats as goat and sheep may not miss on the menu. But this is also the place where buffalos are grown and marvellous mozzarella cheeses are produced. Typical wines of the area are “Trebbiano”(white), “Sangiovese” (rosé), “Merlot”(red), the White, Red and Rosé wine of Circeo and the precious “Moscato” of Terracina.
